Bach and The Bard - Season Two

After two sell-out shows in January, Rachel and the crew from Sport For Jove are going to do an encore performance in the heart of Sydney…

Bach and the Bard is not just a concert, but an experience – cellist Rachel Scott and Sport For Jove’s artistic director, Damien Ryan, have carefully curated the evening performance, matching music of differing aesthetics to the music of Shakespeare’s poetry. (Expect something completely different from last year if you caught the live-stream – but equally wonderful!)

American Poet, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, said “Music is the universal language of mankind.” Musicians and actors have always been interested in the marriage of music and words. Spoken word sounds like song, and instrumental pieces speak to us as strongly as if they were stories.

Bach and the Bard is a concert that blurs the lines of expression between words and music. It connects the words of Shakespeare to music by J.S. Bach, Pablo Casals, Michael Praetorius and Paradis. Presented by cellist Rachel Scott, brilliant percussionist Ben Sibson and actors from Sport for Jove, you will be taken on a journey for the time you’ll be in the performance space. Expect dances of all kinds, featuring hand-drums from around the world, and moments of magic featuring the heavenly sounds of the vibraphone – all linked to the incredible words penned by William Shakespeare.

You’ll be tapping your toes, chuckling to prose and sighing with pleasure as your heart beats slower at certain points – you’ll love every moment!

To enter the beautiful space of the Eighteen80 Hall, you’ll need to enter via the gate next to High Holborn street.
