CELLISSIMO, LIVE IN CONCERT!

After the success of the recent live-stream, the Cellissimo concert is going to be live for one afternoon only! As part of the David Pereira’s ’70 Not Out!’ series, we’ll be repeating the concert in the beautiful chapel at the Australian Centre for Christianity and Culture in Barton.

David writes… “Rachel Scott and I together enthusiastically devised this unique performance of 6 cellos. Her Bach in the Dark series of concerts is many years old now and I’ve been a regular guest but we never aspired to present a large ensemble of fine cellists. Not exactly is it a case of – what’s better than two cellos? – but as we premiered the program via livestream from Sydney last Friday I was obliged to concede that 24 cello strings in passionate unity is highly seductive!

It’s a while since I was Rachel’s cello teacher at ANU School of Music but she remains feisty, determined, talented and original… now enormously experienced. Meanwhile, we joined forces with four of my present gifted students at the same institution and quickly have made a beautiful collaboration. My young students keep me that way while I ‘age’ them, and Rachel presides – good cop and bad cop in the one stimulating person.

Our choice of repertoire mixes novelty with conservatism. There are toe tappers and tunes whistle-able, lamentation and celebration, all to be in the resounding acoustic of the Chapel at the Australian Centre for Christianity and Culture. The sound will be enveloping, involving, persuasive, memorable. The energy will be strong and healthy. Come, make the occasion a celebration!”
